I recently sent out a message on facebook asking for stories of people who have been blessed through scholarships. I personally have been very blessed through scholarships at TWU and I know that there are many more similar stories, as there are opportunities to apply for scholarships and many generous people are ready to make education available for those who cannot afford it.
David Pasivirta contacted me as a result of receiving a musical arts scholarship through an application and audition in 1999. He goes on to say that his time at TWU was very important, though it seemed so long ago.
I never thought I could afford Trinity, but when I was awarded the scholarship it helped me get over the psychological barrier of being able to afford my education. I worked while at Trinity, as well as during the summer, and some family friends were able to help me a bit.
Being at TWU was very helpful, because of the attention that some of the professors were able to give, I was inspired both in the vocal/choral side of the university, AND in the humanities department. I continued with academia after TWU being awarded a scholarship and graduate TA Assistantship at Laurentian University for an MA in humanities.
I was able to participate in a variety of things at TWU that helped me maintain focus on both school and life, I learned so much at TWU that made it worth the insane amount of money that it cost. (I think my undergrad cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 70K-and I am still
paying for it)
If I had been at a regular school, I may not have finished, and I may not have had the chance to grow into taking my faith seriously. I learned a lot about church history through courses at Trinity, and I was grateful for that as well. I am eternally grateful for the scholarship I was awarded as it made it possible for me to attend TWU.
